Found out a mature oak can drink 50 gallons of water a day and I have been watering all wrong
Was reading through an old extension pamphlet from Ohio State last Tuesday while waiting on a bucket truck repair, and it said a big oak can pull 50 gallons a day out of the ground in summer. I have been standing there with a hose for 20 minutes thinking I was doing something. Twenty minutes gets maybe 15 gallons if I am lucky, so I was basically giving the tree a sip and calling it a steak dinner. Now I am out there with a 5 gallon bucket drilled with a hole, letting it drip for hours instead. Anyone else got a cheap trick for deep watering without buying one of those $80 gator bags?
