Saw a guy at the lumber yard loading a tree into a sedan with the roots still wrapped in burlap
Honestly, kept my mouth shut because he looked proud, but transplanting a 15-foot maple that way is just asking for a dead tree and a cracked windshield, right?

You mentioned "15-foot maple" - I'm wondering if that tree had any sentimental value, like maybe he dug it from his grandma's yard or something. Not saying it's smart, but people do crazy stuff for memories. Think he would have let anyone talk him out of it if that was the case?

Actually, I read an article about this exact case in the local paper. They interviewed a neighbor who said the tree was planted by the guy's father when he was a kid, right after they moved into that house back in the 80s. So yeah, there was definitely some history there. But the thing is, even if it was from his grandma's yard, a 15 foot tree is a whole different beast than digging up a little sapling. You can't just wrap the roots in a burlap sack and call it a day, that thing must have weighed a ton and taken a real toll on his truck.
