Hot take: that 'authentic' Roman coin I bought online was a total fake
I saw a listing for a 'legit' denarius from the 2nd century AD for $120. The seller had a whole story about it being from a dig in Britain. It arrived, and I took it to a local museum event for identification. The expert took one look and said it was a modern cast, not even a good one. I'm out the cash and feel pretty dumb. Has anyone else gotten burned on online artifact sales?

What did you expect for that price, real history?

Exactly what Beth said, it's the same with cheap furniture or fast food. You get what you pay for, and that's just how it works now.

Wait, are we talking about the same fast food? Because the last burger I got for a dollar looked like it was assembled by someone who had only heard of burgers in a dream. The "cheese" was a weird plastic square that didn't melt. It's not just cheap, it's a sad little science project.

My friend got one of those, @the_julia, and the bun felt like damp cardboard, honestly.
