Drove 4 hours to a dark sky spot near Moab and my dew heater died, ruined 60 frames
I mean, I packed everything except a backup plan for condensation, so now I bring two heaters and a hair dryer every single time, does anyone else have a dew disaster story that made them change their whole setup?
Carrying two heaters is smart but the part people skip is testing them at home before the trip. Run both for an hour in your backyard on a cold night and watch the amp draw. A weak battery or a loose cable will bite you at 2am, not in your driveway. The hair dryer idea works too, but only if you have a way to power it without draining the same battery your mount runs on. A small separate jump pack for the heater and dryer has saved me more than once. Condensation never shows up when the forecast is kind, it shows up when you drove four hours and can't go home.
