Spent $340 on a tracking mount for my DSLR and it fixed my star trails
I was shooting 30 second subs on a cheap tripod for months and every Andromeda shot came out as a smear. Bought the Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer 2i for $340 at B&H in August and suddenly I could do 90 second exposures with round stars. My first night out in the hills north of town I got 47 usable frames of the Pleiades. So now I'm wondering, do I actually need a guide scope next or can I push 2 minute subs with just better polar alignment?
