Can we talk about how the networking scene at the old Richland monthly meetups in 2016 actually worked better than the app based stuff now
I went to a small business meetup at a coffee shop off Roswell Road about 8 years back, maybe 15 people in a back room, and I figured I would hand out cards and get nothing out of it like usual. Instead this guy named Dale, who ran a print shop in Marietta, asked what I did and then spent 20 minutes introducing me to two other folks there who needed bookkeeping help, and I walked out with two real clients. These days I have tried the big networking apps and the huge events downtown with 300 people and a name tag, and honestly I get way less out of them, mostly just a bunch of handshakes and follow up emails nobody answers. What I figured out is that a room small enough that one person can actually connect you to someone else beats a room full of strangers every time. I still go to one of the smaller meetups in Decatur once a month, around 20 people, and it has been way more useful than anything I paid for. I am curious if anyone else has had luck with the smaller groups over the big ticket events, and where you are finding them around town these days.
