Pro tip: a $3 hose pinch trick saved me from pulling a whole intake on a 2012 Civic
Last week I had a 2012 Civic in the shop with a coolant leak I couldn't pin down. I was about to yank the intake to get a better look, which is a solid 2 hour job I did not want to do on a Friday afternoon. Then my old boss in Dallas used to keep a set of hose pinch pliers around, and I finally bought my own for $3 at the parts store. I pinched off the upper radiator hose, filled the system, and watched the leak show up right at the water pump housing within 30 seconds. Turned out to be a bad O-ring, not the pump itself, so the customer saved about $200 in labor. Has anyone else used the pinch trick to narrow down a leak before tearing stuff apart?
