Told a customer his trans was shot, he got a second opinion, and the other shop agreed with me but quoted $800 less
Had a 2015 Silverado come in last Tuesday with slipping between 2nd and 3rd, and I quoted him $3,400 for a rebuild. He said thanks but wanted a second look, which I get, so he took it to a shop over on Industrial Blvd. They called him back with the same diagnosis, worn clutches and a scorched valve body, but they told him $2,600 out the door. I looked at their quote and they're using a reman unit with a 12 month warranty instead of rebuilding his original, so it's a real difference in what you're getting. Now I'm wondering if I should even bother quoting rebuilds anymore when remans are that much cheaper for the customer. Any of you switched to pushing reman units just to stay in the ballpark with these guys?
