Why has finding basic parts become so difficult lately?
It turns every repair into a scavenger hunt.

Tried to replace a simple hose clamp on my old truck yesterday. Drove to four auto parts stores and none had the right size. Ended up digging through a junkyard for an hour in the rain. Found one on a rusted-out car from the 90s. Felt like I won the lottery just to get my vehicle running. Makes you wonder where all the normal stock went.

Oh man, my friend Dave had to find a tiny spring for his old motorcycle engine last month. He checked every parts shop in town (even the big chain stores, which never have the good stuff). Nothing. Ended up calling some old timer who had a box of junk parts in his garage. Dave drove an hour to get it, and the spring was wrapped in a newspaper from 1985. He said it was like finding a needle in a haystack, but it worked perfectly.

My old truck's universal joint went out last year, had to call three specialty yards just like @brooke448's friend Dave. Ever run into that?
