My tuner said skip the dyno and street log the E30 instead, saved me $400 and found a boost leak
He told me at his shop in Reno that a 3rd gear pull on the highway would show more than a dyno queen run ever could. Sure enough the log showed my AFR leaning out at 5k rpm and we traced it to a cracked coupler I never would've caught on a roller. Anyone else logging on the street instead of paying dyno fees every tweak?
Street logging has its place but skipping the dyno every single time is asking for trouble. You got lucky that boost leak showed up in the log, but a cracked coupler is something you can spot with a smoke test or just looking under the hood. A dyno gives you a controlled environment where you can compare run to run without traffic, hills, or air temps messing with your data. The street is all over the place with load and heat soak so your numbers move around and you end up chasing ghosts. Do both if you can afford it. Use the street for real world checks and the dyno when you need a clean baseline to tune against.
