Overheard a pilot explain an autopilot quirk and it clicked for me

Was grabbing parts at the hangar on Tuesday and this old captain was telling a first officer why the trim acts weird in cold weather... something about the hydraulic fluid density and how the computer reads it. I'd been chasing an intermittent issue on a 737 for three days, turned out the temp sensor lag was exactly what he described. Makes me wonder what other little tricks get passed down verbally instead of written anywhere... anyone else got a story where a casual chat solved a fault that ate up your whole afternoon?

Old timers hold the real manuals, that's for sure.
