Appreciation post: I finally stopped overplanning every mile and my last trip in Pisgah was actually fun
Two years ago I would map out every single mile of a route before a trip, I'm talking a spreadsheet with exact camp spots, water sources, and a backup plan for the backup plan. Last weekend in Pisgah I did a 22 mile loop with just a rough idea of where I'd sleep the first night and it was the most relaxed I've ever felt out there. I still print one map page, but I quit tracking daily mileage targets and just walked until I felt like stopping. Turns out I was spending more time stressed about the schedule than actually looking at anything. Anyone else make that switch from route obsessive to loose plan, or does the spreadsheet still win for you?
