Hit 500 trail miles this past Saturday, my knees filed a complaint

I was counting my total miles for the year while fixing a strap on my pack near the Snoqualmie Pass trailhead. Turns out I crossed 500 miles without even noticing, I thought I was around 470. That number felt huge because last year I only did 310 total, so I doubled my usual pace just by taking shorter trips closer to home. It made me wonder if I should aim for 750 next season or if that's just asking for trouble on the knees. Has anyone else hit a mileage total that surprised them and then changed their routes to chase it?
