Tried making a birthday cake and the whole thing slid off the plate
I was carrying a chocolate layer cake to the car last Saturday and the bottom layer just gave out, like it turned to mush. Had to scoop it into a bowl and call it a 'trifle' before the party. Anyone else have a cake just completely fall apart on them?

Stick it in the freezer for twenty minutes before you frost it. That firms up the layers so the frosting doesn't just slide off into a mess. Works every time for me.

That "turned to mush" thing sounds like your cake got too warm. Buttercream or ganache can melt and act like grease.
