PSA: I stopped freehanding fades around my ears and my rebooking rate finally moved
For close to a decade I cut every skin fade freehand with the clippers upside down, because that's how my first shop in Cleveland taught me and I never questioned it. Last month a barber two chairs over asked why I wasn't using the corner of the blade for the ear line, and I felt dumb for not knowing. I switched to detailing with the corner and a light stretch on the skin, and the line comes out cleaner in half the passes. My regulars noticed right away, and two guys booked their next cut before leaving the chair, which almost never happens. If you freehand your ear lines, what finally made you switch?
