Charged a flat rate instead of hourly for a logo design and got burned bad

Three months ago I quoted a flat $200 for a logo to a friend of a friend in Austin. They dragged out revisions for 6 weeks and I ended up putting in 30 hours. Has anyone else had a flat fee blow up on them like this?

Did you get paid at least? That's brutal, man. I gotta agree with @wade_anderson though, most people learn this one the hard way.

Well shoot, that's a tough lesson but a common one. I've noticed this pattern everywhere - people thinking a simple flat rate covers everything, like when you pay a plumber one price and they end up making three trips because they didn't account for surprises. The problem is we underestimate how much back-and-forth other people need. Next time you might want to write into your flat fee that they get two rounds of changes, then you charge extra after that. Keeps folks from dragging things out forever.

Is it though? Seems like most people figure this out pretty fast.
