Client at the Saturday market told me my $75 logo price made me look like a beginner
A guy selling hot sauce at the Riverside market asked what I charge for a logo and I said $75 flat. He laughed and said that price tells people your work is cheap, then he told me he pays his own designer $600 and never argues about it. I sat with that all week and raised my rate to $450 with a small contract that spells out two rounds of edits. The odd part is nobody has said no yet, and two of the three clients paid half up front without me even asking. Do you all quote higher and let them push back, or start low and work up?
Had the same thing happen with a bakery owner who wanted a menu design for $100. I did it, she loved it, then she turned around and told me I was nuts for charging so little. Raised my base to $500 the next month and the first three people who heard the number just nodded and pulled out their checkbooks. The cheap price was actually scaring off the good clients because they figured something must be wrong with the work. You did the right thing and that contract detail about two rounds of edits is smart, saves you from the endless back and forth. Keep going up until somebody actually flinches.
