Update: My flat rate quote for a website redesign just blew up in my face

I gave a client in Tampa a $3,500 flat price for a new site, but they kept adding 'small' features after we signed... like a custom booking system. I had to go back and renegotiate the whole contract last week, which was a mess. How do you guys write your flat rate deals so this doesn't happen?

Ugh, I used to love flat rates. One nightmare client like that totally changed my mind.

Yep, that's how "flat rate" becomes "oh no, rate.

See your point but maybe it's not always that bad. Sometimes a flat rate works fine if you know the job well. Karen_hill3 had a bad run with one client, but that feels like the exception, not the rule. Most people are okay to work with if you set clear rules up front. A single bad experience shouldn't make you ditch the whole idea.
