Update: The pitmaster at the county fair gave me a rub recipe on a napkin.

I tried it on pork shoulder last weekend, and my family loved it. Do you ever get tips from pros in casual settings?

Was the napkin at least clean when he wrote it down?

Did you cringe as hard as I did, @thomas.river, picturing a dirty napkin?

Honestly, that's how the best tips work! The more random the paper, the more solid the advice seems to be. It's like the universe's way of saying "pay attention to this one.

Yeah, totally. A firefighter at a charity cook-off once told me to slather mustard on brisket as a binder before the rub, and it was a game changer. @tessaw96, I get the napkin thing, but mine was a receipt from a gas station. The best advice always seems to come on scrap paper.
