My sister in Portland told me to skip the first 3 episodes of The Bear, and she was so wrong
She insisted the show doesn't get good until episode 4, so I almost gave up on it after watching the first 2 and feeling bored and confused. But I pushed through to episode 3 anyway, and that one scene with the family dinner had me hooked way before she promised, and by episode 5 I was up until 2am watching. What show advice backfired on you, or did you ever ignore someone and end up glad you did?
My buddy Pete told me to start Breaking Bad at season 2 because season 1 was "too slow," and that was terrible advice. I listened for like 3 episodes and had no clue who anyone was or why Walt was doing anything, so I went back and watched from the start and the whole thing hit so much harder. The slow parts are where you learn who these people are, you know? Skipping ahead just gives you action with no weight behind it. Same deal with your sister and The Bear, that family dinner scene in episode 3 is exactly the kind of thing that only works because you sat through the boring setup first.
