My copy of Catan got wrecked at game night and I'm still bummed about it
So this happened three days ago at my buddy Dave's place over on 5th street. We were five rounds into a really tight game of Catan, and I'm finally about to win with longest road and a city on the 8 wheat hex. Dave's cat comes out of NOWHERE and jumps right onto the table, knocking over my whole setup and spilling a full glass of Coke onto my base game and two expansions. I sat there in shock while everyone scrambled to grab paper towels. The boards are warped now, the cards are stained brown, and the little wooden towns smell like soda. I tried drying everything with a hair dryer on low but the hex tiles are all cupped and won't sit flat anymore. I know it's just cardboard and wood at the end of the day but that set was a gift from my brother. Has anyone brought a soaked game back from the dead, or do I just need to eat the cost and rebuy the base plus Seafarers?
A CITY on the 8 wheat hex and longest road? That is the worst possible time for a cat to go full Godzilla on your table. And it was a gift from your brother, that part really stings. Honestly once cardboard gets wet and dries cupped like that, it never sits right again, the tiles lift and the roads slide around all game. The soda smell is gonna stick too, that stuff soaks into the wood pieces. I'd say rebuy, but maybe keep the old set for spare parts.
