Just found out my book club picks books by page count, not by theme, and I feel tricked
Our organizer in Portland admitted at the March meeting that she keeps every pick under 320 pages so nobody bails, which explains why we read four 300 page thrillers in a row and never touched the 700 page history book I suggested, so does anyone else's group secretly filter picks like this or is it just mine?

keeps every pick under 320 pages" yep been there. Ours did the same thing for a year until I asked why we never read anything long. Turns out two people hadn't finished a book since 2019 and she was covering for them. Fix was easy, we just split into two picks a month, one short one long, and nobody has to feel bad.
