Realized at 2am my book club votes were just the loudest voice, not the best book

We use a group chat to pick monthly reads and I always assumed majority rule was fair. Last month I tallied the actual votes, not the replies, and I noticed the same three members were posting at 9pm while everyone else stayed quiet. One guy finally said 'I didn't really want that one, I just didn't want another argument.' So now we do a blind Google form with a 48 hour window and it took one round to get a book three people actually finished. Has anyone else found that their 'democratic' picks were really just whoever typed first?
