Someone in my book club said a book doesn't count as read unless you finish it, and now half the group isn't talking to the other half
This all started because 3 of us bailed on a 600 page novel at page 200 and two people said that shouldn't count as showing up to discuss it. Where do you all land on this, is finishing the whole thing required or is giving up halfway still fair game?
Oh man, this reminds me of my old neighborhood bunco group. We had this whole blowup because one lady said showing up late meant you couldn't count your score for that round, and it turned into this whole cold war where people were switching tables to avoid each other. The thing is, bunco is supposed to just be an excuse to drink wine and hang out, and somehow we turned it into the Supreme Court. I kinda feel like your book club is doing the same thing right now, because the real question isn't about page counts, it's about whether you want a club that feels like homework or one that feels like friends. If three of you read 200 pages and still have stuff to say, that's a discussion happening, so who cares if the bookmarks are still in there? Did your group ever set actual rules about this, or was it just understood until now?
