Update: a retired English teacher in my club said to stop taking notes during discussions, and she was dead right
Back in 2021 our club in Fort Wayne was reading The Remains of the Day and I was scribbling 2 or 3 pages of notes every meetup so I could bring up every point, and Barbara, who taught high school English for 30 years, told me to leave the notebook at home. I fought her on it for a bit, then tried it, and the talks got way better because I was actually listening instead of planning my next line. Does your club have that one person who gives advice you don't want but end up needing?
