Torn between linen thread and synthetic, my 30th binding settled it
I spent two weeks going back and forth on thread for a gift binding I was doing. Linen feels traditional and lays flat nice, but synthetic is way stronger and doesn't fray as much on the needle. I went with a waxed polyester core for the signatures because this book was getting heavy use, like a journal someone carries everywhere. After 30 finished bindings total, the polyester just held up better through my tightest sewing sessions without snapping. Still, the linen smell and look are hard to beat for display pieces. Anyone else switch based on the project type or am I overthinking this?
