Showerthought: my $4 pothos cutting outgrew my $60 ficus in 6 months
I get why everyone wants the fancy statement plant, but my no-name cutting from a friend's kitchen window in Boise has pushed out 14 new leaves while the ficus sulks and drops them. Anyone else find the cheap, boring plants are the ones that actually thrive?
Fourteen new leaves from a free cutting is cool and all, but comparing a pothos to a ficus is like saying your Honda outran a Ferrari that's sitting in the shop with a dead battery. Ficus are just dramatic, they drop leaves when you look at them wrong, when the light shifts, when you move them two inches. It's not that cheap plants "thrive" so much as pothos can survive being ignored in a dark corner while a ficus needs you to baby it.
