Gave up on the V notched trowel for big format tile, never going back

I was dead set on using the V notch for 12x24 tile cause that's what my old foreman always did. Last month on a kitchen floor in Tulsa I switched to a 1/2 inch square notch and the coverage was night and day, no more hollow spots when I pulled a tile up to check. Has anyone else made the switch and stuck with it or did you go back?
