PSA: my grandma's $0.50 soup trick actually worked and I feel dumb for doubting her
My grandma kept telling me to save veggie scraps in a ziplock in the freezer instead of tossing them, and I ignored her for like 2 years because it sounded like too much work. Finally tried it 3 months ago and now I've got a gallon bag of onion ends, carrot peels, and celery tops that turns into basically free stock every Sunday. One pot of that plus a $1.29 bag of dried beans and some rice got me through 5 lunches this past week for under $4 total. The veggie scraps alone would've been trash otherwise, so it's not even a sacrifice. Anybody else got a cheap trick from family that you slept on way too long?
