Turns out my $4 bag of lentils makes 12 servings

I finally decided to actually read the nutrition label on a bag of lentils from Aldi instead of just guessing portions. The bag says one serving is a quarter cup dry, and there's 24 servings in that $4 bag. That math works out to about 33 cents a serving. Did anyone else realize their cheap staples are even cheaper than they thought?

Oh man, I once bought a giant bag of rice and didnt realize it would last me like six months.

The trick is to portion it out into smaller containers right away, otherwise you'll keep thinking you have less than you actually do. I vacuum seal mine in bags and it stays fresh forever, plus you don't have to fight with that huge bag every time you want rice. Just make sure you strain it before storing because moisture in the bag will ruin the whole thing fast.
