Tracked every dollar on a 9 day trip to Mexico City and the street food math shocked me
I spent 9 days in Mexico City last spring and kept a note on my phone for every peso I spent. Eating tacos and tortas from street carts came out to about $11 a day, while the two times I sat down at a restaurant near Roma Norte it was $38 and $41. The cheap days were honestly the best food of the trip, fresh al pastor cut right off the spit for like 70 cents a taco. I think the big thing was staying in a neighborhood spot instead of near the tourist areas, my hostel was $19 a night in Escandon. Has anyone else found a city where skipping restaurants saved them a ton, or do you just budget for sit down meals anyway?
