A guy at the laundromat on 8th showed me his envelope system and it stuck with me
I was folding towels next to this older guy at the laundromat on 8th last Tuesday and he pulled out a worn folder with five envelopes labeled rent, food, gas, meds, and fun. He told me he's been doing cash envelopes since 2009 and hasn't paid a single overdraft fee since. He said the trick is you can only spend what's in the envelope, and when it's empty you wait til next check. I tried it for two weeks and already caught myself not buying a $40 thing I didn't need. Has anyone else tried the envelope thing and stuck with it past the first month?
