Appreciation post for the rolling weekly spread - I was wrong about it
For like 6 months I kept seeing people post their rolling weeklies and thought it looked like a mess... why would I want half my tasks floating around with no real structure? Then I hit a patch last month where my normal weekly layout just couldn't keep up with how unpredictable my days were. I tried the rolling weekly as a last resort on a Tuesday and it saved me from rewriting 4 days of tasks that kept shifting. The key for me was keeping the future log close by so I could pull stuff forward without losing track... I finally get the appeal now. Anyone else have a layout they hated at first but later found useful?

My buddy Dave swore by those running to-do lists on scrap paper for years and I thought he was insane. Last month he lost his job and had to scramble between interviews, freelance gigs, and taking care of his kid all at once. His scrap paper system actually kept him from losing his mind because he could just add stuff to the bottom without having to rewrite anything. He told me he finally understood why some people don't bother with neat categories when your whole week is basically on fire.

Did you ever try just sticking with the scrap paper for a full week after you got used to it? I had a similar thing happen with a simple list on a single sheet during a really messy period at work. The big thing for me was realizing I was wasting so much time trying to make my layout look pretty when my days were just chaos. I finally stopped caring about neat boxes and just let the list grow as needed. It felt wrong at first, like I was being lazy, but it actually kept me from forgetting things. Now I keep a short future list on a sticky note right next to my main list so I can drag tasks forward without losing anything.
