I just found out the average bullet journal user has 3 pens they really love

I was reading this old blog post from a stationery shop in Portland, and they had done a survey a few years back. They said the average person who keeps a bullet journal has about 3 specific pens they rotate through and are really attached to. I thought that was so funny because I looked at my own desk and sure enough, I have my black fineliner, my grey brush pen, and that one blue gel pen that never skips. I use others, but those are my go-to three. It made me wonder how we all end up with this little set. Maybe it's about having options without getting overwhelmed? Has anyone else found their magic number is about three, or do you stick with just one pen for everything?

My whole pen cup is a rotating cast of about seven. Honestly, I could never pick just three to be my favorites. I have different ones for headers, for writing fast, for when I'm feeling fancy. It feels too limiting to stick to a small set like that.

That makes total sense. My own desk drawer is a bit of a mess for the same reason. There's a specific pen that just feels right for making lists, but it's awful for signing cards. Another one writes smooth for quick notes but skips if you try to write fancy. Sticking to just three would mean some task always feels off.

My friend once tried that and it drove him totally nuts.

Driven totally nuts" over pens? It's a pen, not a life choice. The whole "this pen feels off for a task" thing seems like overthinking it to me. You can just write with whatever's in your hand. Making it this deep feels like a way to stress about nothing.
