Just realized I was doing my daily logs all wrong after a woman at the Kansas City library showed me hers
I was at the Central Library branch in Kansas City last Saturday for a free intro to bullet journaling meetup. A woman sitting next to me had a plain notebook and her daily log was just 4 lines a day, no fancy spreads at all. She said she tried the full artistic layouts for 8 months and it made her dread opening the book. I always thought more decoration meant more commitment, but seeing her quick setup made me realize I was spending 45 minutes a night on boxes and washi tape. I went home and stripped my whole weekly spread down to a simple list and it takes me 6 minutes now. Has anyone else dropped the art stuff and felt weirdly guilty about it at first?
Yes! I went through this exact thing and the guilt is so real. I spent almost a year doing these crazy colorful spreads with doodles and trackers and I would skip days just because I didn't want to sit there drawing for an hour. When I finally switched to a plain notebook with just a running list of tasks, I felt like I was cheating or doing it wrong. It took me a few weeks to get over that feeling but now I open my journal every single day instead of avoiding it. The whole point is to use the thing, not to make it look pretty for nobody. Once you see how much you actually get done with the simple setup, the guilt just fades away.
