Seeing real results from our meat scrap composting
I've been working on making my butcher shop more green for a while now. Last month, we started collecting all bone and fat trimmings for composting. It was a bit hard at first, finding a place nearby to take them. But now, we're sending several bins a week instead of to the dump. Customers have seen this and some even ask about it. It feels great to know we're cutting down on waste in a good way. This small step has made me proud of our shop's work.

Actually, I read an article last week about how meat composting can cut down methane from landfills by a lot. It's harder to do than plant stuff, but when it works, it's a big win. Your shop doing this is pretty cool, shows it can be done on a small scale. More places should try it instead of just talking about being green. The hard part is finding spots to take it, like you said, but once that's set up, it's smooth.

Exactly, so much greenwashing is just for show.

Yeah, that finding a spot part is so real. My buddy runs a small deli and tried to set up meat composting last year. He spent months just calling around, hitting dead ends with regular city compost that wouldn't take it. Felt totally stuck. Then he finally connected with a small farm just outside the county that had a high heat system. Once he got that first pickup scheduled, it just became part of the weekly routine. The setup was a nightmare, but now it's totally automatic for him.
