TIL those $95 'premium' boning knives off the late night ad are basically gas station junk
I picked up a pair of these on a whim back in March because the ad made the steel sound like something out of a sword shop, and I figured for $95 each I couldn't get hurt too bad. First week felt fine, honestly. By week four the edge on the flex knife was rolling over on chicken backs, and I was touching it up on the steel three or four times a shift just to keep it usable. Took it to a buddy who runs a small cut shop over in Council Bluffs and he put it under his loupe and just laughed, said the grind was uneven and the steel was way softer than the listing claimed. I've got a $30 Victorinox that's still going strong after two years, so that stung. Lost about $190 on the pair plus whatever time I burned trying to sharpen a blade that wasn't going to hold anyway. Curious if anybody here has had any luck sending knives like that back, or do I just eat it and hang them on the pegboard as a reminder?
