Screw size chart in my head failed me on a crown install

Tbh I was putting up crown molding in a client's kitchen in Jersey and grabbed my usual 2 inch screws for the build. Turned out the studs were deeper than expected, so the screws came up short and the whole top rail sagged by noon. Had to pull everything down and redo it with 2.5s, now I always check depth before I even unload the drill. Anyone else get humbled by a simple measurement like that?

screw size chart in my head failed me" is a great way to put it, but honestly I don't think the chart failed you, the situation did. Stud depth in an older Jersey kitchen is basically a gamble every time, so 2 inches was never a safe bet to begin with. I get the frustration of tearing it all down, but that sag by noon is kinda a blessing in disguise, imagine if it let go while the client was standing under it. You learned the hard way, but at least your wall is solid now instead of just hoping for the best.
