Shoutout to the old guy in Tulsa who got me off zip ties for bundled drops
I always used zip ties on my bundle runs, figured they were cheap and fast, and I had been doing it that way for about 5 years. Last month a retired installer in Tulsa watched me cinch a bundle of 12 cat6 runs tight and just shook his head, then pulled out a roll of velcro and redid two of my drops in less than a minute. When I came back a week later to add a circuit, the velcro bundle opened up clean and the zip tied ones had crushed the jacket on the bottom two cables. Now I keep a roll of velcro in the pouch and my bundle pulls go way smoother. Any of you run into jacket damage from tight ties, or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?
That line about the jacket crushing on the bottom two cables is the part people miss, since the damage sits under the bundle where nobody looks until a tester fails a pair months later. Cheap ties cost way more than velcro once you count a callback, even if the invoice never shows it.
