Walked into a new build in Phoenix last month and every single outlet was daisy chained with no home runs
I was doing a cable install for a guy who just moved into a new build out in Buckeye and I swear the whole place was wired by someone who has never had to troubleshoot anything. Every room had one line feeding three or four wall plates in a chain, so when I went to activate the bedroom jack the living room dropped offline. I spent 45 minutes chasing a bad connector through three rooms before I finally found it behind a plate that had been painted over twice. Who is training these guys? I get that it's faster to run one line and split it, but that's just passing the problem to the next tech. Has anyone else been seeing this in new builds lately or did I just get unlucky with this one?
Three or four plates on one run isn't even that wild in production builds, I've seen whole upstairs floors on a single feed in Buckeye and Goodyear. The trick is you have to do it with the last jack as the end of the line, not tap off every plate like it's a water pipe. Half these crews are piece work subs who get paid by the run, so one long chain is faster and cheaper for them, and the bad connector behind the painted-over plate is just what happens when nobody checks it after drywall. On the new builds I've worked, chained outlets are normal, the real problem is they don't leave a map or label anything.
