Found a 1957 Leica price list taped inside a camera bag at an estate sale in Cleveland
I drove out to an estate sale in Cleveland Heights on Saturday and dug through a box of old camera bags, and one had a yellowed repair price list from 1957 taped inside the lid, showing a full shutter clean and lube for $12.50. The wild part is the shop's stamp on the back, Kolb Camera Service, so I looked it up and the place ran for 40 years before it closed in the 90s, which means somebody's grandkid was probably still clearing out that bench. Does anyone else keep the old paperwork they find in gear, or am I the odd one for filing it away instead of tossing it?
Oh man, I'm way worse than you. I have a whole shoebox of that stuff, old receipts, warranty cards, a hand written tag from a pawn shop in Akron that just says "works good" on the back. My wife calls it my trash collection and honestly she might be right because half of it isn't even for gear I own anymore. There's something about a $12.50 repair bill from 1957 that just hits different when a basic clean and lube runs you $150 now. That Kolb stamp is the best part though, 40 years in business and some guy's bench got cleared out into a box you paid five bucks for. I'd keep that paper forever, it's basically a little time capsule riding along with the camera.
