That Tuesday I rebuilt the same shutter 4 times and lost my mind

Got a Canon AE-1 in on Monday with a sticky curtain, easy fix right? Took it apart, cleaned it, put it back, tested it. Still sticking. Did that whole dance 3 more times before I realized the timing screw on the bottom plate was stripped and the arm was catching just enough at slow speeds. Replaced the screw with one from a donor body and it fired perfect on the 5th try. Took 6 hours total for what should have been a 45 minute job. Anyone else ever chase a gremlin like that only to find it was one tiny worn part hiding in plain sight?

Six hours sounds like a vacation compared to what I'd have done. I would've just tossed the whole body in a drawer and bought a different one for $80, but hey, maybe I'm lazy.
