TIL that vinegar bath trick for corroded contacts is not a myth

A neighbor handed me a beat up Olympus from the 90s last month, said it wouldn't power on after sitting in a damp basement for years. I laughed at the idea of soaking the battery contacts in plain white vinegar, thinking it was some old wives' tale. Out of desperation I tried it anyway, let the terminals sit for about 20 minutes, then rinsed with distilled water and dried with a hair dryer on low. The camera powered right up and has been shooting fine ever since. I've been doing this trade for 12 years and always reached for contact cleaner first, but this cost about 30 cents. Has anyone else had luck with household acids on corrosion, or did I just get lucky with a mild case? I'm curious if there's a limit where that stops working and you have to replace the whole contact block.
