The 2x rule my old boss in Cleveland drilled into me about crown molding has saved me twice now
I was cutting crown for a dining room in Cleveland last month and my old boss's voice popped in my head. He used to say never trust a corner to be square, always cut your test piece at 45 and then split the gap, and I swear that man was right. Found out the hard way on the last house that the corner was off by almost 3/8 inch and my first miter was garbage. Took me 4 tries to get the inside corner to close up tight, and I only got it because I stopped trying to force 45s and just started cutting to the wall. What's your go-to trick for corners that are way out of square?
