Hot take: waiting 90 days before sending a late notice is a bad move and I have the numbers to prove it
Everyone in my freelancer group swears you should give clients a full 90 days before you even mention a late bill, and I tried that for a while. Then I switched to sending a friendly nudge at day 14 and a firm one at day 30, and my average payment time went from 61 days down to 19. Six months ago I tracked 22 invoices and only 3 of them ever went past 45 days, versus 11 before the change. The whole "don't be pushy" thing cost me real money in cash flow I didn't have. Curious if anyone else here actually tracks their own numbers or if you all just go by feel.
