A job in Galveston after Hurricane Harvey made me ditch the old wire brushes for good.

Found a flue liner cracked from top to bottom from the pressure and moisture, and my standard brush just pushed debris into the gap. Anyone else switch to poly brushes for major storm damage inspections?

That's a solid point about the poly brush. After a storm, you're not cleaning, you're checking for damage. A stiff brush can do more harm, right? @vera29 might joke about stormy relationships, but a cracked liner is no laughing matter.

Sounds like your brush had a real stormy relationship with that flue.

Yeah, that's a smart move. I switched to a poly brush after a big flood job too, because the stiff bristles on my old one were just scraping stuff loose and making a bigger mess. The softer poly ones seem to grab the debris without digging into the cracks, which is way better for a damaged liner.

My old steel brush ruined a perfectly good liner back in 2018. I'm a total poly brush convert now.
