Client asked for logo changes 8 times, then blamed me for the deadline
Last month in Denver, this restaurant owner kept tweaking his logo, tiny tweaks each time, like the font spacing and then the color shade, and I told him each round sets us back. By revision 8, he wanted it perfect for a Friday launch, but it was already Wednesday night. He said, 'You should have told me no sooner' like I was the one holding us up, not his 5 pixel requests. Has anyone else got a client who treats revisions like they're free and deadlines like they're suggestions?
Oh man, sorry but I gotta push back on one thing here, he's actually right that you should have said no sooner, and that's the part that stings. I know it feels unfair because the tweaks were his idea, but once you hit revision 4 or 5, that's when you gotta send the email that says "each round adds two days, so if we keep going, Friday is off the table." Putting that in writing early gives you a paper trail too, so when he pulls the "you should have told me" line, you just forward the email from two weeks ago. The 5 pixel stuff is on him, but the boundary was on you, and learning that one hurt me more than any client ever did.
