PSA: Client wanted me to meet at his storage unit at 9pm to sign the deal, I switched to a coffee shop at noon
Last month a guy reached out about a $3,400 logo and website job for his side business, and after two phone calls he kept pushing to meet at his storage unit in Fresno at 9pm to sign the paperwork and hand over a deposit. I told him I only meet new clients at the coffee shop on Blackstone during normal hours, and he got weird about it, said I was making things hard and that he did not like paperwork or witnesses. I stuck with the coffee shop anyway. We met at noon on a Tuesday, he showed up 40 minutes late with no deposit, then tried to get me to start work that same day on a promise to pay after his next check cleared. I walked, and two weeks later I saw a post in a local business group from someone else saying he owed them $1,800 for design work he never paid for. Has anyone else had a client who pushed hard to change where or when you meet, and did that turn out to be your first sign something was off?
