Old timer at my shop told me to ignore tool wear compensation, nearly scrapped a $400 part
Honestly, this guy named Tom has been running CNCs since the 80s, so I figured he knew his stuff. He said I didn't need to adjust the wear offset for a finish pass on a titanium job we do for a medical place in Austin. I listened to him, ran the part, and it came out .003 over tolerance on 6 critical bores. Had to redo the whole setup and lost half a shift. Has anyone else had a senior guy give advice that just doesn't hold up anymore?

Figure the old guard picks up all these little tricks that worked 40 years ago but just don't fly with modern machines and tighter tolerances (kind of like how my grandpa still tries to fix things with a hammer and a prayer). Saw a guy at the hardware store last week insisting lead paint was fine if you just let it dry, you know?

Oh man, that lead paint thing is wild. I actually read somewhere that the whole "let it dry" myth came from a time when people didn't really understand how lead stays in the environment forever (like, it doesn't just vanish when the paint hardens). Crazy that some folks still cling to that.
