I thought copy-pasting from Stack Overflow made me a fake coder, then a guy at a meetup in Dayton told me something I keep coming back to
Last month I went to a beginner JavaScript meetup at a library in Dayton and admitted I copy code from Stack Overflow without fully getting it. This older guy named Ray laughed and said he had been doing this 15 years and still copies stuff, then he showed me his browser with like 40 tabs open. He told me the trick is not to stop copying, but to paste it into a blank file line by line and make yourself explain each line out loud. I tried it on a simple fetch request and got stuck on the async part for an hour, which honestly taught me more than three tutorials did. Does anyone else here have a weird ritual for forcing yourself to actually read code you paste?
